Weathering – Fleur Adcock from Neil Astley on Vimeo.

When I first heard this video from Fluer Adcock I thought  –  Exactly!

Then, today Carol Ann Duffy became Britian’s first female poet laureate ending 400 years of male domination of this  ‘court poet’ post  extending back past Ben Jonson  who was appointed in 1617 by James the 1st.  I thought again – exactly.

On his blog this morning Alastiar Campbell   insists he did not advise against her appointment, while the Guardian’s Book Blog reminds us that the power of her work is more important than gender and that her complex talent is the topic that should be under discussion. More  importantly she is now, as she once said,   History.

 Once again  – Exactly.
